Who are the camps designed for?

MathCamp NZ runs two types of camps. Spring revision camps (October) are for Auckland students in Years 11–13 preparing for NCEA Level 1, 2, or 3 exams, or IB Diploma students sitting Maths AA or AI at SL or HL. Summer camps (late January) are for students from Years 7–13 wanting to build algebraic skills or prepare for Scholarship Maths.

Is this designed for last-minute revision before exams?

Yes — the spring camps are timed specifically for the final school holidays before end-of-year external exams. The three-day format is designed to consolidate a full year of content quickly and sharpen exam technique right when it matters most.

Where in Auckland are the camps held?

Camps are held in central Auckland. Exact venue details are confirmed and emailed to all registered students approximately three weeks before camp dates. We aim to use a location that is accessible by public transport.

How do I register?

Registration is handled by email. Click any "Register by Email" button on the site and a pre-filled email will open in your mail app. Send it through and we will confirm your place and share full details. If spaces are full, you will be added to the waitlist automatically.

What if spaces are full?

Each class has a maximum of 30 students. If your preferred programme is full, you will be placed on the waitlist. Waitlist members are the first to know about cancellations and any additional sessions we add. We recommend registering early.

Do you cover externals and exam preparation specifically?

Yes. For spring camps, the focus is entirely on NCEA or IB external exam content. We cover the highest-value topics, practise under realistic exam conditions, and give students clear strategies for exam week. It is not generic tutoring — it is exam-aligned intensive revision.

Is this suitable for IB students as well as NCEA students?

Yes. We run separate dedicated camps for NCEA (Levels 1, 2, and 3) and IB (AA SL, AA HL, AI SL, and AI HL). Each camp is tailored to its specific curriculum and exam format.

Is there a summer camp option in January?

Yes. We run three summer maths camps in late January: Algebra 1 (Year 7–12 ability), Algebra 2 (Year 11–13 ability), and Pre-Scholarship Maths (Year 12–13 students interested in Scholarship). These camps focus on building skills and confidence for the year ahead rather than exam revision.

What is the difference between Algebra 1 and Algebra 2?

Algebra 1 covers foundational algebra from linear equations through to introductory quadratics — suitable for students from Year 7/8 ability upwards. Algebra 2 picks up from solid algebraic fluency and goes into advanced factorisation, polynomials, sequences, and proof — suitable from Year 11 ability upwards. They are sequenced but independent.

Is the Pre-Scholarship camp only for top students?

It is designed for ambitious students who are genuinely curious about Scholarship-level mathematics — not just those who have already achieved perfect grades. If your student loves maths and wants to be challenged, they will fit in. The environment is supportive, not intimidating.

Can friends register together?

Absolutely. Friends are welcome to register for the same camp. As long as you are both in the same programme (e.g., both in NCEA Level 2), you will be in the same class. Group registrations of 3 or more also qualify for a group discount.

Yes. If 3 or more students register together, everyone in the group receives 10% off their registration. Mention the group members' names in your registration email to claim the discount.

What should students bring to camp?

Students should bring a scientific calculator (or GDC if relevant to their course), pens and pencils, and their current class notes or formula sheet if they have one. We provide all revision materials, printed question sets, and worked solutions.

Each class has a strict maximum of 30 students. This is a deliberate choice to keep the learning environment focused and to ensure every student can ask questions and receive attention. Once a class reaches 30, registration closes and a waitlist opens.

What if a student needs to miss one day of the camp?

The three-day format is designed as a continuous programme and each day builds on the previous one. We encourage attending all three days to get full value. If this is a concern, please contact us when registering.

Summer camps range from $595 to $845 early registration depending on the programme — Algebra 1 starts at $595, Algebra 2 at $695, and Pre-Scholarship Maths at $795. Standard pricing applies once early-registration places are filled.

The price covers three full days of structured, expert-led instruction in a small group of maximum 15 students. It includes past paper practice, exam technique coaching, printed revision materials, and full access to the programme content. There are no hidden extras.

A small group means every student can ask questions, get real feedback, and stay genuinely engaged throughout — rather than sitting in a large passive lecture.
